September 2014 Sampler

by Jim on 2024/09/01

Greetings, and welcome to the September 2014 Sampler essay.  All of the better images in this set were published not long after they were taken in 2014.

Wednesday, The 3rd

We will start at New Orleans Public Belt Railroad’s France Yard, with NOPB 3003 at the southern end of the yard.

On that day, I got a few other railroad images in the metropolitan New Orleans area.

Thursday, The 4th

Here is a shot of some bridge members on an ATSF flatcar in Schriever.

That is a view from the northern side of the track, the yard.

Tuesday, The 9th

Oh, I remember this day well.  Things didn’t go well the night before.  It was an allism thing, I now realize.

This was a new shot, a shot at Frenchmen Street on the Norfolk Southern Railway “Back Belt” line.  I didn’t do it before, and I rarely did it again after it.

Wednesday, The 10th

Here I am by Norfolk Southern Railway’s Oliver Yard in New Orleans.

The only way that I know where that was is that sign there.

Saturday, The 13th

This is the Company Canal in Lockport.

I was there for a reason that seemed really cool at the time but almost embarrasses me now.  It’s rather complicated.  I didn’t know myself.  I didn’t know my society.  I came to know one only as I came to know the other.

Monday, The 15th

I thought that I was regaining my hold on the metropolitan New Orleans area, but, in retrospect, I see that it very much was slipping away.

I got some good shots at Live Oak on this afternoon.

Sunday, The 21st

Here I am back at the Company Canal in Lockport for the same reason.

I was both trying to be something that I wasn’t and trying to be who I am.

Monday, The 22nd

On this day, I am at Gouldsboro Yard in Gretna, where I get a classic view.

That is the afternoon New Orleans & Gulf Coast Railway train parked before departing westward.

Wednesday, The 24th

On this afternoon, I got some shots of a westbound train descending the Huey P. Long Bridge.

It’s an interesting place.

Saturday, The 27th

Here is the CSX’s daily transfer run to-and-from the Canadian National Railway yard in the New Orleans Gateway on its way back to CSX Gentilly Yard with the daily interchange train from CN Mays Yard.

This day was the beginning of a weekend of pet sitting.

Sunday, The 28th

On this day, I made a large and memorable set of pictures, perhaps my biggest New Orleans set of pictures on this year.

That is, again, the CSX job between CN and CSX, again, on its way back to CSX Gentilly Yard.

Monday, The 29th

We close out this month on the West Bank, where I got some shots on the NOGC.

I got a few other pictures on this day, and that’s just that.
