Pinehurst, Englewood, And Lake Charles

by Jim on 2024/01/27

Okay, yes, yesterday’s article was very long, primarily because it included a month’s worth of notes since before Christmas.  This one, following only yesterday’s post, will be much shorter!

We started today in Texas.

I went for a long predawn walk, and these two images were made between 05:00 and 05:15.

I then got gasoline at Kroeger.

Back at the host’s house after getting gasoline, I was sitting in my truck in the dark, realizing that I don’t know the title of the blog posts of that trip that I made for Uncle Harold’s funeral, and, so, like, I’ll be writing one blog post, I’ll be thinking about what to call this one without knowing what I did with that one.

So, it’s like, Aunt Mary Margaret dies, I come to Texas, but I haven’t even done the blog post from when Uncle Harold died. They died too close to each other for me to do that.

Only in the last few days have I finally been working on the backlog of pictures from 2023, the current backlog.  I needed something to do now between now and the time that we go to the funeral.

Of course, I have been thinking all morning and last night about my dream railroad, the rebuilding of the SUNBELT route, and extending it into Nevada, Reno, San Diego, and parts of northwestern Mexico.

The funeral service was nice.   We then went eat.

My meal was quite underwhelming, though that says nothing about what this restaurant offers.

I just needed something light, because all of the foreign travel food that I had been eating was wreaking havoc on my digestive system.  This was too light, though.

At 15:12, we left the host’s house to go to our house in Louisiana.

The term “in situ” is interesting.

There were ECNX reporting marks on westbound train at Cypress.

What is gulfpac.com?  I saw some sign with this on it.

We stopped at Union Pacific Railroad’s Englewood Yard.

This is a hump yard, formerly of the Southern Pacific railroad.

Do you see the hump and the hump tower at left?

That was nice.

We crossed into Louisiana on I-10 at 17:50.

We stopped at Lake Charles, briefly.

The bathrooms were locked, which really upset me.  I had to urinate outside.

We arrived back at the house no later than 20:00, my bed time.  This was a good trip.
