New Year, New Reality
Greetings, and welcome to the January 2006 Sampler essay, showing one image from each date in the month of January 2006 on which I made a presentable photograph, and a settling down from the intense month of December 2005.
All of the images shown here mere made in southeastern Louisiana.
Sunday, The 1st
On my way from home back to the pad in Whoadieville, I shot a picture of the eastbound Amtrak Sunset Limited moving eastbound at Melodia Plantation Road. Then, I took River Road through Ama and got this picture.
That is a grain elevator served by the Union Pacific Railroad’s Livonia Subdivision.
Tuesday, The 3rd
Back at work, I got this shot of a New Orleans & Gulf Coast Railway train on Fourth Street in Gretna after work on this date.
The train had 45 cars and had the same power set that we saw here almost exactly one week before, as seen in the “December 2005 Sampler” essay..
Unfortunately, I wouldn’t get any more NOGC action for the rest of the month.
Saturday, The 7th
As my “November 2005 Sampler” essay indicated, by this time, Live Oak Junction was my go-to place on weekend mornings. Here, we see Union Pacific Railroad train QLINSB with a CSXT 5233 in what may be just primer paint coming through the junction.
The QLINSB was built at Livonia Yard was interchanged to the Norfolk Southern Railway with a Birmingham block.
Late that afternoon, I saw and photographed BNSF Railway train M-NWOLAL at Schriever at dusk making a pickup.
Sunday, The 8th
Here is a parked Union Pacific Railroad grain train at the elevator in Westwego.
I was on my way back to the pad from home.
Saturday, The 14th
Here is a one-unit wonder, UP train MNOHO-14 crossing Berwick Bay.
Because it was a one-unit wonder, I chased this thing all the way to the Bayou Sale siding, and I remember telling Mister Bone about this.
Saturday, The 21st
The fog was rather intense on this day!
Those are what appear to be US Army Corps Of Engineers people taking pictures, which would make sense, as this is right next to the beginning of the Harvey Canal.
Sunday, The 22nd
Here is a bad picture of AMTK 1 leading Amtrak’s eastbound Sunset Limited eastbound at Schriever.
The place is sacred!
Tuesday, The 25th
Here is BNSF Railway train M-NWOLAL1-25 parked in Avondale Yard.
The only thing that I remember about taking this picture is that some of the local gangsters passed in an automobile and hurled obscenities at me.
Saturday, The 28th
Again, I went to Live Oak this morning, and my first catch there – well, at Willswood – was BNSF Railway train Q-LACNWO1-24-eastbound at Willswood Road.
Then, I got this gem coming through the junction!
That was the LLS51 with an unpatched Southern Pacific locomotive leading it, perhaps the last time that an unpatched SP locomotive led the train and, as best as I can tell, my only digital picture of the LLS51 with an unpatched SP locomotive as power.
I am not sure why I didn’t chase this thing farther west. It could have been a combination of reasons. At the time, I was still without a radio, having lost my Radio Shack scanner in Berwick the day after Christmas. I could have also been busy with work stuff.
Anyway, that is all for January 2006, and that’s good!
