When The GP38-3s Were New To The NOGC – 14 October 2008

by Jim on 2013/10/14

I’m not sure of exactly when the GP38-3s first arrived on the New Orleans & Gulf Coast Railway, but this is one of my first – if not my first – shot of one of them, the HLCX 1011 on the point of this parked NOGC train, taken on 14 October 2008.

The HLCX 1011 would become the NOGC 1011.  You can see two GP7s behind the GP38-3; the ‘new’ was beginning to displace the old, I think that only two GP38-3s were on the property at first for awhile, and by early 2013, all GP7s would be off of the property.  The train seen above was parked right by Rathborne Park in East Harvey.

Just across the canal – the Harvey Canal – in West Harvey, we see in the below picture a switcher tied to another GP7 at work at Kinder-Morgan.

The bridge at one time had two tracks, and the SP line is now abandoned, about where those weeds are just at the top of the ditch.

All for now.

I enjoy the “look back” guess that is one of the “things” ole timers have, eh?
